Lava Lamps NFT
Project Overview
SUMMER 2021 - SPRING 2022
Lava Lamps NFT was created by three friends who were curious about crypto and wanted to use their skills to cater to a fun discord community and Twitter fanbase of about 13,000.

Artwork, UI/UX
I was brought on the create the artwork, an exciting challenge. My goal was to create about 10k unique lava lamps, which I designed systemically.
-
Zack Wainwright
Now an expert in crypto, who was just getting interested in the topic at the time. He handled our business decisions and social media presence to boost the project up.
-
Dorvil Gabriel
Dorvil joined the team, a fantastic developer who wanted to learn through this project the technical aspects of minting and blockchain certificates.
Additionally, he built the website which I designed.
How I created so many variations of artwork
Figma file containing variants of the artwork
systematic approach
Using my knowledge of Figma and building design system components, I leveraged the variants feature.
I set the file up so I could “swap” out different attributes of the art such as backgrounds, base shape/color, glass color, and more.
Each instances of artwork has the ability to swap in different bases, backgrounds, lava bubbles, and more
Lava bubbles tie to a serial number. Example: lamp #1234 would have a red, green, yellow and blue bubble
Designing the website
Lavalamp.io explains the goals of the project in an interactive way
launch & promote the project
Our site needed to achieve three goals:
Educate fans about the project and the different artwork they could get.
Have a count down on the landing page to get fans excited for project drop.
Once live, we needed to replace the count down with a button to mint the lamps directly on the site, without having to go to Opensea.
I wanted to capture the “vibe” of the artwork for fans to interact with. I wanted it to feel fun, so I made the site look like a lava lamp, with lava bubbles on the homepage.

What we learned from the project
The project goal of learning about the crypo space and providing a fun NFT project for our fans to purchase/mint was a success.
Additionally, we learned the hardships of keeping our fanbases engaged and pivoting based on a rapidly changing market.
Although the NFT space significantly dropped in popularity due to the baremarket, NFTs provided a platform for us to creatively explore and use our own abilities in this fun collaborative project
